The Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) services will not be thrown into disarray during Aidilfitri despite the work-to-rule threat by the Railwaymen's Union of Malaya (RUM).

The KTMB management has set plans to offset the industrial action threat and there is no cause for worry or panic, said KTMB in a statement yesterday.

"KTMB is confident that it is in control of the situation and the impact of the action will be minimised to ensure that train services will continue to operate as usual," said the statement.

The embattled union had threatened disruption of train services for Hari Raya Puasa if its demand for the resignation of KTMB president Aminuddin Adnan, whose contract had been extended to July 31, 2013, goes unheeded.

RUM president Abdul Razak Md Hassan warned that the disruption of train services could affect about 50,000 passengers if about 2,000 out of 3,600 union members, who were locomotive and commuter drivers, decided to work-to-rule during the festive season.

Downplaying the threat, the KTMB said there would be additional coaches for the east coast route during the festive season as repair works on coaches were expected to be completed in time for Aidilfitri.

KTMB yesterday announced that additional coaches for the east coast route  between Aug 26 and 29 would be considered as tickets had been sold out.
