Penawar, an organisation comprising former Umno elected representatives, today denied reports in a blog that the organisation had requested Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to step down.

Penawar president Abd Aziz Shamsuddin told reporters today that the body, formed in December 2009, had never called for Najib to step down.

“I deeply regret reports claiming that Penawar had asked the prime minister to step down because it is not true. We respect the constitution and the responsibilities of Umno,” he said.

“Penawar was formed to offer its views, support the government and serve the people.”

Aziz said Penawar would not take legal action against the blog msomelayu.blogspot.com and the blogger Mohd Sayuti Omar who posted the article, because it would not solve the problem and neither is court action a solution to the issue.
