Gov't compensates 2005 nude squat victim

Puzzled: Something doesn't quite add up in this case. The victim was initially thought to be a Chinese national so much so that one of our ministers had to apologise to Beijing. Surely that minister would have checked and confirmed with the police as to her identity before apologising.

It was only at the royal commission of inquiry that Hemy Hamisa Abu Hasan Saari came forward and claimed to be the victim. Surely the police would have the identity of the victim since it involved a serious case (drugs).

So how could they have mistaken her for a Chinese? What language did they speak to her in?

Lim Chong Leong: Taxpayers are made to pay for the crimes committed by our Royal Malaysian Police (RMP). Let's not forget we also paid for a minister to go to Beijing to make an apology because our RMP thought that she was a Chinese national.

It is easy to admit responsibility if it was taxpayer's money you are using to pay compensation.

Aku Melayu: DAP should also be compelled to compensate the government and apologise to the rakyat for wrongly telling the world that the victim was a Chinese tourist. Teresa Kok's action has brought shame to the country and create anguish to China-Malaysia relations.

Loyal citizen: If not for the DAP, the truth would have been in buried. We should be thankful to the DAP for highlighting this incident.

We don't care about the woman's nationality, but the fact that a human being's dignity had been maligned. At least now, we can be satisfied that the truth is out and the wrongdoers have admitted their mistake.

Anonnn: PM Najib Razak's coming budget should include expenses for ‘Compensation' using taxpayers' money. Our government servants don't seems to understand that their salary is paid by the rakyat.

Orang Gila Malaya: The pervert who filmed the action shall be sacked from the RMP. Make him pay the compensation to the woman.

Anonymous_3e86: It is clear that there is high-level corruption in the Scorpene submarine scandal.

The evidence linking Perimekar to PM Najib Abdul Razak and Altantuya Shaariibuu is overwhelming. Last week's deportation of French lawyer William Bourdon merely confirms that. What's more, Najib had to cut short his overseas visit to sort this out personally.

If this government was a Japanese cabinet, at least two-thirds of them would have committed suicide already.

FellowMalaysian: The figures showing the breakdown of costs in the purchase of the Scorpene submarines jolted me to realise that Perimekar's commission for 'coordination and support services' constitute a hefty 12 percent of the price tag for the two submarines.

Perimekar's role did not include those of project management and consultancy services, and this meant that their scope of work was very limited.

Secondly, under what credible grounds was Perimekar awarded the appointment and did Razak Baginda's wife Haslinda, being the majority shareholder of Perimekar, possess the credentials to justify the Defence Ministry awarding the 'support services' roles to them?

Lastly, was there a transparent and open process of evaluation before the appointment of this company?

These are some pertinent questions which Najib could shed some light on as he was the defence minister when the transaction took place.


PM warns of insidious parties out to colonise minds

DannyLoHH: So, the colonial ghost is being resurrected by the Umno president, again. But didn't Najib just pay a visit to our past colonial master, the British, just one week ago?

The fact is that our mind and spirits have never been freed ever since Umno Baru was created. Our minds were, and still are, shackled by the Printing Press and Publication Act, the Official Secrets Act, the Internal Security Act and the Emergency Ordinance; and our spirit de-spirited by the Police Act.

There is colonial master of our mind today alright, and that master is Umno.

Gerard Samuel Vijayan: Najib is talking about Umno-BN. No wonder we are still not free.

We have a government that continues to control every aspect of our lives with impunity by relying on oppressive and unjust laws; a media that is neither free or fair; a judiciary, police and civil service that are subservient to the ruling party; and elections that are tainted with abuses and fraud.

Not Confused: The PM has lost the plot. He obviously does not live on the same planet as the rest of us. Colonisation? By whom?

As always, this is yet another sign of the desperation and panic that has set in within BN and Umno, in particular.

They really think that by demonising everyone and everything in sight, they will be able to hold on to power in this country. Most of us will tell him that those antediluvian ideas just don't wash any longer.

We, the rakyat, are a lot smarter than he thinks, and a damn sight smarter than he and his ministers.
