Disciplinary action will be taken against public servants found to have been involved in the July 9 illegal rally in the federal capital.

Public Services Department (PSD) director-general Abu Bakar Abdullah said the action taken would depend on the level of involvement of the civil servants in the illegal rally.

Abu Bakar said PSD would conduct an investigation if there were reports on the involvement of government servants and action would be taken under the Public Officers Regulations (Conduct and Discipline) 1993.

"The action against them will depend on whether they were involved directly, that is, taking active part in the demonstration or indirectly through the distribution of T-shirts or other items connected with the rally.

"To date, PSD has yet to receive any report on the involvement of public servants in the illegal rally," he said.

Abu Bakar was speaking to reporters after attending the Institute of Public Administration's (Intan) executive discourse themed "Government Transformation

Agenda: Role and Direction of the Institute of Public Administration" in Kuala Lumpur today.

It was attended by 250 participants from 364 public training institutes nationwide.

The PSD had on June 30 issued a circular banning the involvement of public servants in the illegal rally or any movement that threatened the security of the country.

The three-page circular reminded government servants not to be actively involved, attending or using office equipment to organise any movement or illegal gathering.
