Calling themselves 'Luvsec', the hackers targeted the PKR de facto leader's popular social networking page at about 12.40am and posted a message uncharacteristic of Anwar's usual messages.
They announced in colloquial Bahasa Malaysia that the Bersih 2.0 rally slated for this Saturday has been cancelled because he had a kenduri (feast) to go and that he plans to wear a purple baju Melayu.
"Salam semua, disini saya nak umumkan yang Perhimpunan Bersih akan ditangguh buat sementara waktu, ini kerana saya dan LuvSec dah plan nk pegi makan kenduri... sehubungan dengan itu, kami plan nk pakai baju melayu warna ungu... hihihihihi jgn mare," said the message, signing off as 'Luvsec'.
Just minutes later, through Anwar's Facebook page, the hackers announced that they were apolitical and they as Malays should not fight each other because of politics.
"Kenapa korang suka politics??? disebabkan politics... kita orang melayu berpecah belah... patutnya kita harus bersatu... kami @LuvSec bukan lah dari mana2 parti... kami cuma ingin MELAYU SAMA MELAYU BERDAMAI... JANGAN BERGADUH KERANA POLITICS!!!," said the later message.
While the method of hacking the group deployed to attack Anwar's page remains unknown, Luvsec sent messages, presumably to Anwar's web team, saying that its password is not secure.
A check at the Luvsec's own Facebook page revealed that they are 'skiddie scripters', a term used to describe amateur hackers who use scripts and programs developed by other people to mount assaults on computer systems and deface websites.
Najib, the next target
On Anwar's Facebook page, the hacker named Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak as the next target, although it was not specified if it would be his social networking website or the numerous government agency websites under his helm.
At press time, the hacking of Anwar's page appears to have stopped, but the messages posted by Luvsec are still on the page.
Meanwhile, Anwar’s aide Eekmal Ahmad said their administrator detected something wrong at about 1am last night.
“It was hacked by a person known as Luvsec. However, we have rectified it by 11.15am,” he said.
Just about three weeks ago, at least 51 government websites were hacked by a group called 'Anonymous' in retaliation of the government's earlier decision to block file-sharing websites.
