Ummi Hafilda's RM100m suit for trial on Sept 12

Ummi Hafilda Ali's RM100 million suit against her former business partner Nor Azman Abdullah @ Baginda Minda and Mkini Dotcom Sdn Bhd will go to trial on Sept 12 and 13 at Kuala Lumpur the High Court.

Judge VT Singham fixed the date when the matter came up for case management today.
Earlier, Justice Singham had asked Ummi Hafilda's counsel Zulhelmi Wagiman about the defamatory words complained about, and whether the plaintiff's statement of claim contained the exact transcript.
Zulhelmi said he did not have the actual transcript but would rely on the statement of claim.
He also said his firm had not been able to serve the papers on Nor Azman and would therefore place notices in newspapers.
He also said Umi Hafilda would call three witnesses.
Lawyer Fahri Azzat said Mkini Dotcom, which operates the Malaysiakini news portal, would call two witnesses.
Justice Singham also scheduled Aug 1 for the final case management.
In her suit against Nor Azman and the Malaysiakini administrator, Ummi Hafilda is alleging that Nor Azman had uttered slanderous statements against her at a press conference at the Parliament lobby on March 15.
She claimed that the statements by Nor Azman, which were carried by the news portal the same day, portrayed her as an immoral, scandalous and cheap woman, a liar and an untrustworthy person.
The businesswoman also said the article painted her as a witness who would lie while testifying in court, who was desperate for opportunities and was involved in Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan's sodomy allegations against Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim.
She is seeking an injunction to stop the defendants or their agents from repeating the slanderous statements, and RM100 million in general damages.
