Two more reps added to list of Bersih arrests

Police are giving no reprieve in the ongoing Bersih 2.0 crackdown, as two more opposition leaders were detained, albeit briefly, for wearing the banned yellow Bersih 2.0 T-shirt at a dinner last night.

Police are giving no reprieve in the ongoing Bersih 2.0 crackdown, as two more opposition leaders were detained, albeit briefly, for wearing the banned yellow Bersih 2.0 T-shirt at a dinner last night.
It was learnt that Lukut state assemblyperson Ean Yong Ting Sin (right) and Bahau state assemblyperson Teo Kok Seong (left) were detained immediately after attending a DAP dinner in Titi, Jelebu in Negri Sembilan.
According to Teo’s twitter timeline, police and federal reserve unit (FRU) personnel were put on stand-by at the dinner venue, and had issued a warning that those wearing the yellow Bersih T-shirts would be arrested.
The moment they stepped out of the dinner venue, Teo tweeted that both he and Ean Yong were “invited” to have their statements recorded at the Titi police station in connection with the dinner.
Teo added that police inspected his car and confiscated one yellow shirt and a DVD of DAP’s Taiping MP Nga Kor Ming.
It is understood that the pair were released after midnight.
Yesterday, police detained Gopeng MP Dr Lee Boon Chye and Simpang Pulai state assemblyperson Chan Ming Kai, along with two PKR members, while they were making their rounds at the Gunung Rapat morning market in Ipoh, Perak.
Lee (centre) was wearing a yellow collared shirt, while Chan and and one of the PKR members wore Bersih shirts. The fourth detainee wore a plain white shirt.
The quartet was taken just minutes after arriving at the morning market at around 9am, and were released later that afternoon.
Lee said the police told him the arrest was made under the Police Act to prevent an illegal assembly, though he claimed they were not distributing any leaflets nor did they bring any banners with them.
Selayang MP and PKR treasurer-general William Leong Jee Ken, meanwhile, was summoned to have his statement recorded at the Gombak police station at noon today in relation with the upcoming July 9 rally.
