The Umno MP for Sabak Bernam, Abdul Rahman Bakri, and his special aide Mohd Rusli Busro, were ordered by the sessions court in Shah Alam today to enter their defence on eight counts of making false claims.

NONE Sessions judge Azhaniz Teh Azman Teh ruled that the two have a prima facie case to answer on the charges against them.

Abdul Rahman, 46, is charged with eight false claims of RM10,000 each, totalling RM80,000, from his constituency's allocation for a series of non-existing events.

These claims were made between Jan 21 and Feb 4, 2008, just before the March 8 general election when Abdul Rahman ( left ) was Sungai Ayer Tawar assemblyperson.

His aide, Mohd Rusli, is charged with abetting him in making the false claims.

Abdul Rahman is charged under the Anti Corruption Act 1997 and faces up to 20 years in jail and a fine of five times the amount of gratification involved if found guilty.

Azhaniz Teh fixed Sept 14 and 15 to hear their defence.
