Muhyiddin, who is also the BN deputy chairman and Umno deputy president, said the BN would not fall into the trap of the opposition because it was confident that the people still believed in the cause of the BN.
"This is the psychological war initiated by the opposition to recondition the mind of the people that there is no point in supporting the BN because the BN will lose," he told Malaysian journalists after visiting the University of Maryland in Washington on Monday.
Muhyiddin, who is in Washington for a four-day working visit beginning Sunday, said this when asked to comment on the statement by DAP advisor, Lim Kit Siang who was reported to have said that the opposition could win in 11 states in the next general election.
The deputy prime minister said the opposition could claim that they had the capacity to win the next general election and win many seats, but the people were the ones who would decide.
"They can say that they will win the general election and win many seats, but what is important is for the BN to continue with our agenda through engagements with the stakeholders whether socially, economically, in the field of education and so on.
"From one aspect, we look at the by-election results, including Sarawak (state election), although the opposition made various assumptions such as they could wrest the state government, it was the people who decided," he said.
"I know the challenge will be tough. The opposition already have an ambition to topple the government, and Putrajaya is their target.
"However, we (BN) will not take it easy," he said.
Muhyiddin said Lim Kit Siang was actually worried that the BN had already moved ahead through the political and economic transformations which would have considerable impact.
"The opposition are getting more worried that their 'Road To Putrajaya' plan will fail, so they start the psywar. I'm confident that the people will not fall into their trap," he added.
