The Penang chapter of Suara Rakyat Malaysia has lodged a police report after unknown  intruders broke into its office in Sungai Dua yesterday.

Penang NONE Suaram coordinator Ong Jing Cheng said the break-in occured about 10.45am.

When he arrived at the premises, he realised that the office door was closed but that one of the locks was damaged.

"The iron (grille) gate and lock (at the main entrance) seem to have also been damaged. The drawers and the cabinet door in the office look like they have been broken into," he said, after lodging a police report yesterday.

Nothing was taken although there is a laptop, portable computer, telephone and drink vending machine in the office.

NONE He added that the last time the room was used was about 10pm on Saturday.

"I urge the police not to waste so much energy on disrupting peaceful assemblies which are the right of all citizens but to concentrate more on catching criminals," said Ong.

He was referring to the ongoing crackdown on Bersih 2.0 campaigners, who are urging people to attend their mammoth rally planned for July 9 in Kuala Lumpur, to demand free and fair elections.

Ahead of the event, the police have nabbed more than 80 activists and questioned several Bersih 2.0 and opposition leaders.

The biggest number of arrests were made on Saturday when 59 PSM members, including Sungai Siput MP D Jeyakumar, were hauled up in Penang.

Twenty-eight campaigners arrested in Joho are being investigated under the Sedition Act and the Printing Presses and Publications Act, while the 30 arrested in Penang are being investigated under Section 122 of the Penal Code for the rare charge of waging war against the Agong,.

Those arrested in Penang are being held under remand until July 2.
