Inspector-general of police Ismail Omar today issued a second reminder to members of the public not to participate in illegal street demonstrations planned for July 9.

He said they should not get involved as the illegal street demonstrations could affect public order.

"I am monitoring the situation... and furthermore, there have been hundreds of police reports lodged stating their objection to the planned demonstrations.

"The demonstrations can cause tension among the people. As such, as responsible Malaysians, do not make a choice that can aggravate the situation," he said.

He said this when met by reporters after attending the closing of the Women's Skills Development and City Survival Workshops at Dewan Besar Tun Rahah, Menara Yayasan Tun Razak, here.

The workshops were closed by the prime minister’s wife Rosmah Mansor.

1,248 police reports lodged against Bersih

Umno Youth and Perkasa, a right-wing group, have threatened to hold counter demonstrations.

At a press conference yesterday, Kuala Lumpur acting police chief Amar Singh said none of the groups had been issued permits for the demonstrations and that city police were fully prepared to deal with anyone who insisted on proceeding with the illegal street demonstrations.

In Ipoh, Deputy IGP Khalid Abu Bakar, speaking to reporters after opening the Police's Innovation Day, said so far, 1,248 police reports had been lodged by various governmental and non-governmental organisations, business groups, associations, politicians and individual members of the public opposing the illegal street demonstrations.
