The Dewan Rakyat today rejected a motion to discuss the threat of hackers who are reported to have attacked 198 websites, including government portals, since June 13.

Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia said the matters contained in the motion did not require the urgent attention of the house although they were of interest to the public.

He, therefore, rejected the motion brought by Salahuddin Ayub (PAS-Kubang Kerian) who said that the hackers could jeopardise national security.

Salahuddin, who presented the motion immediately after question time, said the daily agenda should be postponed to discuss the possible threat to security.

Pandikar Amin said that a motion must be concerned with something new that needed to be discussed and should be of public interest to be accepted. It must also be more important than the agenda for the day.

Information, Communication and Culture Minister Dr Rais had been reported as saying that the identity of the group of hackers calling themselves “Anonymous” would be found out soon.
