The MCA's top leadership is expected to meet as soon as tomorrow to discuss whether or not they will sack members who go against the party directive and take part in the Bersih 2.0 rally on July 9.

NONE Deputy president Liow Tiong Lai ( left ) said the party has already taken a clear stance against the planned rally, urging members to stay away from the potentially volatile gathering.

He also declined to comment on threats of chaos by Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali should the Bersih rally take place, brushing it aside as "nonsense".

"Why do you want to report his statement? He's just a nobody who always talks nonsense," he said when met in the Parliament lobby.

Liow said mass public gatherings such as Bersih, which is fighting for free and fair elections, are not necessary as the country already has systems in place to address public concerns.

He repeated that MCA has made it clear to its members that it will not agree to any of them taking part in next month's rally.

"Every member knows that... not only MCA members, the public should also avoid the gathering. Umno Youth should not protest on the streets as well," he said.

Liow said he expects the issue to be discussed at the party's presidential council meeting, normally scheduled for Tuesdays, though he pointed out that the date of the meeting is the president's prerogative.
