Razaleigh: The way we are now

Onyourtoes: Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, I think you should seriously consider joining the opposition for the time to talk is long over.

Who does not know the concentration of power when the prime ministers of the past and present have unashamedly and routinely also assumed the positions of finance minister and home minister? Ours is not even a presidential system and yet our PM has more power than any president of other countries.

No one seems bothered with the gross abuse of power at the expense of the rakyat and for the benefits of the cronies.

If we free the economy, we can actually get rid of all the subsidies and price control. The secret is not control; the secret is to make the economy competitive. Get rid of crony capitalism and ensure competition, the price and supply will take care of themselves.

The reality is, sweetheart deals are just too many in this country, so much so that they almost stifle the breath of this nation. How can we ever be competitive when public transportation is almost non-existence and yet car prices are exorbitant and tolls are everywhere?

There is no point talking anymore, Tengku. Please do something when you still can. Defiance is everywhere.

Abasir: Ku Li, this is not the first time you have provided English-speaking Malaysians with incisive analysis of what ails us. Great after-dinner reading! It reflects your ability to reflect, discern trends and draw logical conclusions.

You may perhaps be interested to know that more than scholarly analysis, sage-like pronouncements and sound bites, Malaysians sorely need new leadership to lead us out of the mess we are in.

But, by your declared preference to be part of the problem rather than the solution, we realise that you will not be that leader. As they say, Ku Li, talk (however smart it sounds) is cheap... and quite worthless.

Docs: Wine ages gracefully with years. Unfortunately it's the opposite with Umno; it rots further as the years go by. It's time to toss out what is bad for Malaysia. To do this, all Malaysians should work together as one nation and one race to fight this rotting menace that's killing Malaysia slowly buy surely.

As one nation, all Malaysians had fought against the imperial power of the British and gained independence in 1957. It's time for Malaysia to come together again and fight against the evil menace of Umno and all that Umno stands for - corruption, cronyism, racism, stupidity and anti religious freedom.

Malaysia has fought tyranny before and we can (and must) do it together again.

KSN: Why doesn't Ku Li join a Pakatan Rakyat party of his choice, and lend a hand, at least, to change the direction the country? Umno is beyond correction and will not allow Ku Li to play any role in the party under the current political climate.

Ku Li, your participation in the opposition will make a huge impact. What say you?

NH Gong: It such a pity that Razaleigh can see and talk so well but does nothing about it. Much like a great teacher who says, ‘I will teach you what to do to become good but don't follow what I do.'

Raikonen: Ku Li seem to say all the right things which is cool, but a real statesman is one who walks the talk. Why are you still in a party full of thieves and plunderers?

Kit P: Ku Li is useless at real reform. At the moment of truth, as they say, he's just another Umno apparatchik shouting ‘Vote BN!' That way, he helps perpetuate the rotten system that he is supposedly against. The bottom line is Ku Li is part of the problem, not part of the solution.

Not Confused: Razaleigh talks more sense than anyone in authority for a long time. The problem is that he has lost all credibility by staying put in the bankrupt and corrupt Umno.

He should have done more than just talk long ago and left Umno to join the opposition. Maybe he has skeletons in his cupboard or someone has some kind of hold over him. He talks well but achieves nothing - it's such a great loss to the nation.

Bhajnik Singh: Talk is cheap Ku Li. Walk the talk. Don't stand on the sidelines. When it came to really making a stand, like the recent election in your state, you showed your true colours. You are an Umno man and will always be one.

Patriot Umno seem to have mastered the art of psychological warfare as legitimate means are getting more and more beyond its reach with the majority race being spilt three ways due to Umno's own doings and not other factors.

What has been stated by Razaleigh is already a well-established scenario of the current Malaysian political scene propagated by the ruling party.

Razaleigh has always been seen as a just and honest politician and he could have enhanced Tunku Abdul Rahman's original concept of generational responsibility if he had defeated Dr Mahathir 'apa nama' Mohamad in the election for the party's top post. Even then, foul play was strongly suspected in the party election.

Unfortunately, the present entrenched group in Umno is well-oiled and well-maintained and they have no intention of biting the hand that feeds gold to them. Razaleigh is thus considered a spent force in Umno who has little bite or support.

Isa@1penyu: I agree with most of the points Razaleigh raised and it is my ardent hope that those privatisation projects were really not done right under his nose or that of Anwar Ibrahim's.

It's easier to blame others, as we can now see in Penang and Selangor where DAP is ensuring most projects are given to their cronies. So you can change the government but nothing is going to change. Everybody's in politics for their own gain as Kedah PAS has shown the same mettle by giving to cronies. As they say, if Umno can do it, why not us?

At the end of the day, whoever is in power, the rakyat will still be taken for a ride.

Keturunan Malaysia: Isa@1penyu, when you have layers upon layers of dirt collected through decades, you need time and effort to scrape it off and wash it clean.

You have to start somewhere. The process of cleaning is a continual process, even well after cleaning whatever sum total of dirt there is. After all, as you clean, dirt will continue and/or attempt to continue to accumulate.

As Harold Wilson put it, "He who rejects change is the architect of decay. The only human institution which rejects progress is the cemetery."

Ghkok: Razaleigh is as principled and courageous as he is irresponsible. He is principled in so far as he brings up all these issues and makes a firm and clear stand on it. He is irresponsible in so far as he fails to withdraw from Umno, which is the very edifice of decay that he talks so much about. He fails in his responsibility to the country.

Josephine: Tengku, inspiring your speeches might be, they are mere words and empty rhetoric. Your remaining in Umno despite its inability to reform and its continuing decay, makes your fiery speeches akin to beating of empty vessels.
