'BN Cronies Now, People and Performance later'
Sabah DAP is disappointed that BN government continues to overlook the raykat’s welfare, although PM Najib Abdul Razak’s slogan is "People first, Performance now".
There was no justification for the subsidy cuts from the many controlled items such as sugar, petrol, super diesel and so forth, because the BN government has continued to misuse a lot of public funds on unnecessary projects.
As examples, there is the Tourism Ministry’s payment of RM1.8 million for its Facebook page.
Then, the Youth and Sports Ministry disclosed that the recent One Million Youth Gathering in Putrajaya - which was attended by less than 20,000 youth from May 27-29 - had cost the government RM27million.
Last but not least, the government has presented a new supplementary bill asking MPs to approve an additional RM13billion on June 14, the second day of the second session of Parliament.
With all the subsidy rationalization exercises, the government should have succeeded in shrinking the budget deficit, but it has only gotten worse. Government had expected an estimated revenue collection of RM165.8billion, but its expenditure has exceeded the revenue, amounting to a staggering RM175.992 million
"Why must government cut fishermen and lorry drivers' diesel subsidy but spend billions on unnecessary matters?
