The Election Commission is looking into improving the voter registration process further so that voters facing objections will not delay the registration of other voters, said EC chairman Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.
 
NONEHe said under the current practice, names of new voters for a particular constituency could not be gazetted until all objections were resolved.
 
"We don't want to deny them their right to vote when elections come. Therefore, we are reviewing the process so that the matter can be remedied," said Abdul Aziz (left) in Kuala Lumpur today.
 
He said, for example, if there were 10,000 people registered in an area and there were only a few objections, all of them could not be gazetted as new voters.
 
The objection process would have to be completed before the Supplementary Electoral Roll could be gazetted, he said.
 
On Wednesday, the commission reported that 81,000 people from 29 constituencies could not be registered as valid voters in the first quarter of this year due to this hiccup.
