A 15-year-old boy, who survived a jump from the roof of his three-storey school building, could be charged with attempted suicide, a report said today.

The teenager jumped from the school roof because he apparently felt humiliated after being slapped by a teacher for misbehaving, the Malay-language Berita Harian said.

He was sent to hospital with injuries on his hand and forehead, the newspaper said.

"We will hand the case over to prosecutors and leave it to them to decide whether to charge him with attempted suicide," a police spokesman was quoted as saying.

The boy has severe disciplinary problems and often flouted school rules as well as swore at his teacher, he added.

Under Malaysian law, those found guilty of attempted suicide can be sentenced to a year in jail, or fined, or both. - AFP
