The Selangor Foundation received 373 applications for study loans between January and May this year from students of various races in the state to further their studies at tertiary institutions.

The chairman of the state Committee on Education, Higher Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Halimah Ali, said of the total, 240 applications had been approved by the foundation.

“Out of the 240 applicants who were offered, only 148 had accepted while the others rejected the offer,” she told reporters after the weekly state exco meeting in Shah Alam today.

Halimah said the Malays formed the largest number of applicants totalling 350, of whom 227 were offered and 142 had accepted.

There were 19 applications from the Indian community of whom, 11 had been offered while six had accepted the offer, she said.

Halimah said only four applications were received from Chinese students, of whom two were offered but none had accepted them.
