The Energy, Green Technology and Water Ministry will propose to the Housing and Local Government Ministry to provide incentives to food premises and restaurants which help to reduce pollution from waste cooking oil.

Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Peter Chin Fah Kui said this was part of the efforts to reduce pollution from waste cooking oil which was normally released into sewage pipes and drains.

Chin said he would discuss the matter with Housing and Local Government Minister Chor Chee Heung on the possibility of using the waste cooking oil from the food premises and restaurants to produce low-carbon biodiesel.

"The biodiesel is good for use by cars which run on diesel," he told reporters in Seremban today.

He was met after visiting the Arena Technology Sendirian Berhad (AATSB) factory, which is a subsidiary of the Tunku Syed Razman Environmental Foundation.

Also present at the function was the Tunku Besar of Tampin, Tunku Syed Razman Ibni Almarhum Tunku Syed Idrus.

AATSB is the company which introduces the 'Arena Tech', a type of equipment installed at food premises and restaurants to collect waste oil.

The oil is then sent to the AATSB factory to be processed into biodiesel using a machine known as Razak Bio 1.
