Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today asked UDA Holdings Bhd to prepare a report on the status of the development of the area around Pudu Jail known as the Bukit Bintang City Centre.

He said the report would enable the cabinet to assess the state of the project in light of the "polemics" that had arisen between the Finance Ministry-owned company and several political leaders who alleged that UDA was not sincere in its stated intention of assisting Bumiputras.

"We should be more transparent, especially UDA as the agency developing the land in Pudu," he told reporters after opening the Bayan Baru Umno division delegates meeting here.

The management of UDA Holdings Bhd is alleged to be interested in awarding the project to a company from China with the excuse that there were no capable Bumuiputra companies.

UDA chairman Nur Jazlan Mohamed has been challenged to reveal the 11 companies said to be interested in the project estimated to be worth RM6.7 billion.
   
Muhyiddin said that UDA must prepare a comprehensive report so that the government could find a solution and end the polemics.

"What is important is for us to know is if the selection of the company was according to regulations, not against (policy) and (Bumiputra) companies had been given the widest opportunity to make bids," he said.

He was confident that a solution could be achieved after the government received the report.
