The Selangor goverment will help the victims who survived last Saturday's landslide tragedy at the Hidayah Al-Taqwa orphanage to get a new home, Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said today.

He said the state government would charge only a token land premium of RM1 to any party willing to come forward to set up a welfare home for them on land owned by the state government.

"This is to encourage noble efforts, besides ensuring such homes are built in safe locations," Khalid said after receiving a briefing on the tragedy at the scene.

The 24 children who escaped unhurt in the tragedy, which claimed 16 lives and left 10 others injured, are temporarily being sheltered at the Lembah Azwen Resort, located about 500 metres from the tragedy site.

An official of the resort, who declined to be identified, said the resort would look after the children until an alternative home was found for them.

Meanwhile, PAS central committee Mohamad Sabu represented Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in handing over aid totalling RM25,000 to the victims' family members and guardians on behalf of the Penang state government.
