Project IC: Anwar says he was kept out of the loop

Swipenter: We cannot allow this act of treason to go on. It is unthinkable that these Malay political elites are selling off the country's sovereignty to foreigners for the sake of maintaining political power.

Anyone who loves this country and has information on this insidious, covert and treasonous operation must stand up and lay bare the facts for the nation to digest and take action against the perpetrators. This is treason against the country and Agong.

Poppyie: There is some truth in Anwar Ibrahim's story on being kept out of the loop on Project IC. When Dr Mahathir Mohamad brought in Diam Zainuddin as his financial adviser, Anwar's role as the finance minister was simply ceremonial in nature.

I can recall one incident at TNB (Tenaga Nasional Berhad) when the chairman cum CEO was Tajuddin Ali, who hails from MCKK (Malay College Kuala Kangsar) somehow had his initial appointment ratified by Mahathir. However, when Diam became the financial adviser, he sent Jamaluddin Jarjis to a newly created post deputy chairman at TNB.

Tajuddin got the signal and packed his bag rather than dragging until the last minute for Mahathir's intervention. When Tajuddin left, the next day it was announced that Jamaluddin had assumed the post of chairman cum CEO of TNB, and the post of deputy chairman was dissolved.

Anonymous_3e97: Of course, Anwar is part of the system. He was after all the PM-in-waiting. But he is now a whistleblower. Now that the truth has been revealed, he should be protected so that more of the evils of Umno could be revealed.

ONG: Anonymous_3e97, a whistleblower is an informant who exposes wrongdoing within an organisation in the hope of stopping it.

On Project IC, Anwar is no whistleblower, never was and never will be. He did not expose anything. All he has done is to give excuses for his role in the project whilst he was DPM and Umno deputy president.

By the way, I'm a Pakatan Rakyat supporter, but fortunately not a blind one, so don't call me a BN cyber-trooper in case you have such an urge.

Brahman: I do not believe that Anwar does not know anything about Project IC. Megat Junid Megat Ayub was the home monster and Mahathir was PM, so we know that they were involved.

But many forget that Anwar was the Umno pointman, who was appointed to ensure that Sabah return to BN's control, he was practically camping in Kota Kinabalu. So it is impossible that he did not know.

Cannon: At the time, Anwar was backed by 19 of the 20 Sabah Umno divisions to topple then Umno deputy president Ghafar Baba. Every Umno politician in Sabah knows that Megat Junid was with Anwar. Megat worked with Sng Chee Wah, the paymaster. How can Anwar expect people to forget?

As revealed by commentator Brahman, Anwar was Umno's pointman in Sabah to topple PBS. Anwar was the master mind, he controlled the loop, he was in charge. As the Malay saying goes, the mouse deer forgets the trap, but the trap remembers the mousedeer. What Anwar had sowed in Sabah, he is now getting it back in Peninsular Malaysia.

M'siaKiniFan: I agree with some of the comments here - do not support blindly. Those who have committed wrongdoing should not be supported just for the sake of supporting them. We need a two-party system. We don't need another gang of scoundrels to rule this country because we already have one big corrupt monster to get rid of. We need capable leaders and good governance.

In this case, I believe Anwar was trying to work inside a corrupt system and he was finally kicked out because he posed too much threat to some Umno leaders. But if Anwar is a bad guy now, do you think PKR would even exist today?

Nil: The government of that time committed high treason and should have resigned, or removed. Anwar, you were part of that government. What are you going to do now to redeem yourself?

You said that you were kept out of the loop, and the benefit of the doubt should be given to you, especially seeing what the government is now doing to you. But at all costs, see to it that that those directly responsible be punished.

Some heads should roll... Those 600,000 and more new citizens should have their citizenship revoked.

Gunner: We must allow these debates to go on so that at the end of the day we all know the real truth. So far we are sure that Mahathir, the late Megat Junid and KSN (chief secretary of the government) at that time were the prime movers of Project IC. We want to know more.

BujangSenang: People involved in Project IC are traitors of the highest degree and ought to be burnt at the stake.

I can't fathom why such an operation was carried out to give the ‘pendatang' citizenship when there are thousands among us who were born in this country and have been waiting for years, some even 40 years or so, and yet no word from the authorities about their citizenship applications.

Malaysians Are Not Stupid: Don't bother asking Dr M. He can't remember any of the harm he has done to the country, including treason.

All he can remember are what good he thinks he has done for the country including creating a new class of super rich bumiputeras entrepreneurs, which include his son Mokhzani, who is listed as one of the top 20 richest men in Malaysia.

Anak JB: This is the only country in the world that prided themselves in attracting unskilled workers in droves and happily letting their brightest minds leave the country. How are we ever going to become a high-income country?
