Former Padungan rep's ally strikes back at PKR

The Bandar Kuching PKR division is now calling for a disciplinary hearing against the state party chief Baru Bian (right) for the swap deal with DAP for their Batu Lintang seat in exchange for Padungan.
The eleventh-hour deal had resulted in the disendorsement of the incumbent candidates who were considered mavericks within their own parties.
Voon Li Shan had previously held the Batu Lintang seat for DAP. Both Voon and Ng (left) were then not fielded in any other seat. Ng later resigned from the PKR and stood to defend his Padungan seat as an Independent, garnering only 439 votes and losing his election deposit along the way.
Current Bandar Kuching division acting chairperson Yong Sen Chan called the swap deal “chillling” and “malicious”.
“Dirty politics and cronyistic behaviour must not tarnish the image of the party.
“The secretive last-minute sell-out of a party comrade for the apparent consolidation of personal power is as chilling as it is malicious and against all commonly held values of decency.
“Even the party national leader, YB Anwar Ibrahim, was taken aback by the seat-swapping decision,” he said in a statement today.
Division fingers Baru
Yong had then blamed Baru - now also the Ba’Kelalan assemblyperson - over the deal, questioning whether the decision had been made without consultation with the other state leaders.
“The unexplained disendorsement of an incumbent party legislator is a dangerous precedent, with potential repercussions on other incumbents in future.
“Baru Bian has acted in complete disregard of the history of struggle of the party in Sarawak, and give due recognition to the place of the electorate of Padungan in securing its first foothold in the state in 2006," said Yong (left in picture, with division secretary Cai Jin Li at right and former Stampin PKR deputy chairman Haji Jamali).
“Fast forward to 2011, an incumbent, who was instrumental in the party break-through in Sarawak, has been betrayed by his party comrade, his hard work serving the electorate for five years, his championing of state and national issues, wiped out in one fell swoop of treachery,” said Yong.
Yong also urged the party’s national disciplinary bureau to reveal the full terms and details of the seat swap.
