Voters demand 'reward' from SUPP office

Hibiscus: That the Ibans so openly demand for the remainder of the bribes allegedly offered them by SUPP shows that they don't know it is illegal to accept bribes. How about the Election Commission (EC)? Do they condone giving of bribes?

If not, then the Election Commission is duty bound to inform the voters loud and clear that it is illegal to accept bribes. They should put up posters in prominent places and distribute flyers warning people that people who accept bribes are liable to be fined if caught.

Voters should be informed that they are to report anyone offering and giving them bribes, for the giving and accepting of bribes subvert the election process.

Freemsia: EC and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should take immediate action. No wait! The EC chairperson did say he is not familiar with fraud rules in elections. As for the MACC, no way will they investigate. They are too busy sweeping reports against Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud under the carpet at the moment.

Joker: Will EC step in? No, they will say they have no power to investigate. Will MACC step in? No, MACC will need a police report before it can start work. Will the police step in? No, the police will need someone to lodge a report first before they will act and even then, the police will 'need time to question all witnesses'.

Will the courts overturn the election result? No, the courts will say the election is people's choice and beyond their jurisdiction.

Righteous: No way will they go after the ‘tuai rumah' for criminal breach of trust. The police and MACC are sitting on their hands as far as BN/Taib is involved. Even if they investigate at all, it will take years to solve and bring those guilty to book.

Dood: Over to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and Election Commission (EC). Oh wait, I forgot, they only investigate Pakatan Rakyat, not BN parties.

Not Confused: These Iban got what they deserve - allowing themselves to be allegedly bought for RM500. SUPP and BN will also get their just deserts in the coming GE. We all know this kind of vote-buying goes on, and despite such proof, the MACC and EC will of course do nothing or make some stupid lily-livered excuse.

Just keep it up you guys - our time will come and those who have cheated the rakyat will pay.

Kgen: They sold their future for about RM500. Today they get some pocket money, tomorrow BN will take their land and their livelihood. Is this worth it?

Petestop: The fact that the Iban are the majority ethnic group in Sarawak yet hold relatively little political power boils down to the fact that their own grassroots leaders, like the tuai rumah, are willing to sacrifice their children's future for just RM500.

Is it any wonder why the Iban community still remains the poorest not only in Sarawak but in Malaysia as a whole. Where are the Iban leaders? Out looking to line their own pockets?

DMY: Please do not condemn the Ibans and say that they deserve what they get. You have no idea what RM500 means to their day-to-day livelihood as compared to a vote that they have not been educated about.

If SUPP wants to play money politics, at least they should do it well. Do not treat the Ibans with such viral contempt. They are humans, not things.

Cannon: The Iban are not to blame. Governance issues have no meaning to people who are not educated and who are scratching the ground for a living. RM500 is a lot of money for folks whose main concern is for the next meal. Let's not be too hard on the Ibans and the other native communities who are placed in similar situation.

They have hope for change through their young generations who are being educated in the towns and cities. Development seeping into their lives will gradually open up their minds and give them a basis to make comparisons.

Meanwhile, the opposition, if it aspires to win their support, will need to do more than just show up during election time. Pakatan Rakyat representatives have to come alongside them, work the ground, and be there for them.

Malaysian1st & Last: We must thank BN and the tuai rumah for reneging on their vote-buying promises. It is this kind of short-sightedness that will work to the advantage of the opposition, as I hope now, the voters will not be so easily bought come GE13.

Ramachandran Muniandy: Our EC should learn from the largest democracy in the world as to how they conduct an election.

Recently Tamil Nadu had its state election. Usually the returning officers are from the state itself but India's Election Commission transferred all the returning officers (district collectors or DO) temporarily out of the state.

They brought in returning officers from other states to make sure no cheating or bribery. The police were replaced by border guards. Anyone carrying huge amounts of money were taken into custody and questioned. Many state ministers houses were ransacked by the authorities for keeping extraordinary amount of cash and questioned.

That is what is called transparent elections, unlike here in Bolehland.


Sibu SUPP bumi members: Report damaging to us

Anonymous _dhf3b: The report on 100 people going to SUPP headquarters to collect their voting fee is mischievous.

Honest and responsible reporting is crucial to racial harmony, and the DAP having won some 12 seats should show their spirit of representing all Sarawakians and not look for such garbage to bring disharmony. I wonder what the DAP is up to next.

Sandakan: SUPP, why do you lie? You cheated the poor longhouse chiefs and committee members, and now you claim they are your workers. The poor, uneducated and illiterate in Sarawak have now lost their self-respect, together with their democratic right to make a free choice.

Rayfire: Yeah right, so it is "wages" for your "service". Please don't sell your soul to the devils for crumbs. You future generation will not forgive you for this.
