Internal Security Act detainee Kadir Hashim, a disabled man missing an arm, was released at about 3pm today, after almost three weeks in detention.

According to his brother Muda Hashim, was dropped off at the latter's home in Kerinchi, Kuala Lumpur at about 4pm today by three police officers.

"The police didn't say anything about the arrest even though I questioned them. They only told me not to create trouble," said Muda when contacted.

NONEKadir (left) was arrested on April 1 was arrested for suspicion of terrorism. According to his lawyer Fadiah Nadwa Fikri, the 43-year-old was released without conditions.

"I'm letting him relax for now so I have not asked him any questions about his detention, but as far as I see he has not been physically harmed," Muda said when asked about his brother's condition.

An active PKR member, Kadir was arrested under Section 73 (1) of Internal Security Act (ISA) for suspicion of involvement in seditious activities.

In an immediate statement, the Anti-ISA Movement (GMI) said that while it lauds the release, it is also proof of the arbitrary nature of the ISA.

“It actually proves the arbitrary powers under ISA to detain, sentence and release detainees according to most suitable time deemed to be advantageous for the ruling party,” it said.

It reiterates that the only way to remove this power is to abolish the ISA, with its victims either released or put on trial in open court.

“The bravest act is to place justice where it should be. (The ISA) was not just abused, but it is an abused bad law,” it said.
