Police are intensifying their search for the owner of an Omega watch, said to have been retrieved from the room in which the infamous sex video was recorded.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department deputy chief Acryil Abdullah said the police are awaiting confirmation from the supplier of the Omega watch to ascertain the buyer's identity.

“We hope to complete the investigations into the sex-tape caper and resubmit the papers to the Attorney-General's Chambers,” he said.

“The branded watch should have a certificate of ownership, and police are trying to determine to whom it belongs. Prior to this we had given the manufacturers one week to get back to us, but they have not done so. We hope to get their reply this week.”

He added that the police are still tracing the identity and whereabouts of the woman in the video to facilitate investigations.

Asked to comment on the recently leaked footage, he said he does not know who had uploaded it online, adding that this is being investigated by the Commercial Crimes Unit.

NONEThe watch has been a thorn in PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim’s side after he was implicated in the footage and his admission that he owns such an item.

Yesterday, he was involved in a heated exchange with a journalist about this.

At a recent press conference, Anwar’s wife and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had lost her cool when asked about the watch, which Anwar had said is in her keeping.

“It is with me. We have the watch. There is no loss,” Wan Azizah said.

Asked to show the watch, however, Wan Azizah appeared uneasy and several PKR leaders at the press conference had to come to her defence.

Trio behind release

The sex video, first shown to some journalists and editors on March 21, shows a man having sex with a woman said to be a sex worker.

The footage shows a man closely resembling Anwar, but he has since denied any involvement and has lodged a police report.

azlanThe three individuals who have admitted to being behind the release of the video are businessperson Shazryl Eskay Abdullah, former Malacca chief minister Rahim Thamby Chik and former Perkasa treasurer Shuib Lazim.

Eskay and Rahim had handed in the tape when quizzed by the police on March 24. It is believed the watch was submitted at the time that their statements were recorded.

Police have classified the case under Section 292 (showing of pornography) of the Penal Code.
