Two Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission officers have been suspended in relation to the sudden death of North Klang Port assistant director Ahmad Sarbani Mohamed at its office in Kuala Lumpur.

A statement released by the MACC said the suspension is for the commission to hold an internal inquiry to the death.

“They are said to have violated orders in the handling of witnesses or customers at the MACC premises, where it is said the officers had failed to be with the deceased at all times,” the statement said.

NONE“The suspension is to assist the internal probe regarding the death and they will remain suspended until the probe finishes.

The suspension is based on Regulation 43, Civil Servants Regulation (Behaviour and Discipline) (Amendment) 2002.

The statement added the findings would be presented to the complaints committee, chaired by former Court of Appeal judge Mohd Nor Abdullah.

The other members are Wan Abdul Wahab Abdullah, lawyers Chooi Mun Sau and M Ravindran, and Muhammad Mohd Nor.

Yesterday, it was reported the complaints committee had made recommendations to prevent a recurrence.

Ahmad Sarbani, 56, who was among 62 Customs officers of all ranks, detained in a major operation on April 1, was found dead outside the Kuala Lumpur MACC building yesterday.
