Mohd Jaafar is new Shah Alam mayor

Mohd Jaafar Mohd Atan took his oath as the sixth mayor of Shah Alam city at a ceremony in Wisma Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam today.
Jaafar, 57, who hails from Malacca, succeeds Mazalan Md Noor whose term of duty ended on March 31, and was transferred to the Public Services Department after his secondment to MBSA since 2007.

Jaafar, 57, who hails from Malacca, succeeds Mazalan Md Noor whose term of duty ended on March 31, and was transferred to the Public Services Department after his secondment to MBSA since 2007.
Jaafar's appointment took effect from April 1.
Graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, he started his career in public service in 1980 as a town and country planning officer in Malacca.
He was then appointed as National Physical Planning director at the Town and Country Planning Department, Peninsular Malaysia, president of the Seremban Municipal Council (on secondment) and later Negeri Sembilan director of Town and Country Planning.
On Nov 16, 2006, Jaafar was appointed the Selangor director of Town and Country Planning.
He regards his appointment as mayor as a trust to be shouldered with determination to fulfil the aspirations of Shah Alam city dwellers.
"I will discharge this responsibility to the best of my ability, and will focus on several areas such as providing better communication and public transport systems, and cleanliness and greening of the city," he said after the oath-taking ceremony.
