Snap: Seat talks with PKR on the brink

Rookie: Snap knows it cannot hope to win Sarawak on its own, so what's stopping it from joining forces with Pakatan Rakyat? Maybe Snap thinks it can win substantial seats for it to share power with BN.

But there's another way for Snap: divide Sarawak state seats between PKR and DAP. It's now or never for Snap. If it gets too greedy, it might lose more than its head.

Nwo: This is exactly what PKR doesn't understand about Sarawak and why it is so short-sighted. There would have been no clash if PKR had acknowledged the reality on the ground - that Snap has a better chance in many of constituencies with Dayak majorities, especially against PRS and SPDP.

PKR is under the mistaken impression it can win.

ONG: PKR offers Snap four seats and Snap wants 27 seats at the very minimum. And they call such 'pasar malam' style bargaining part of political negotiations?

Come to think of it, even ‘pasar malam' bargaining don't start with such a huge initial chasm of price, where the trader offers to sell for RM27 and the customer offers to buy for RM4. What a bunch of clowns!

WikAdam: Snap has been accused of being a BN mole and of being a Trojan horse. These PKR supporters just cannot accept that an indigenous Sarawak party has the same right as any other party to contest the elections in the seats it sees suitable, so much so that they have to resort to name-calling and slandering.

If straight fights are important, why is it that Snap is considered as the one with the lesser claim? Looking at past record and the present campaign performance, (for which Snap candidates have already started theirs), Snap has a better chance of winning than PKR.

Ghkok: One question to Snap - as part of the quest to "unseat Taib", is Snap:

1) truly on the side of Pakatan or
2) are they making deals with BN or
3) are they still leaving their options open?

The quest to "unseat Taib" does not necessarily mean that Snap is on the side of Pakatan. Snap Aduns can still join BN, through the back door that was open by PM Najib Razak, by joining as "direct members".

So there is a possibility that when the elections is over, Snap Aduns move over to BN en-bloc as direct members.

Nicole: Paul Kadang, from the day Snap announce they are going for 28 seats, I already know from one of the candidate who is a vice-president that Snap do not want to be part of Pakatan, unless they are in the driver's seat.

That means Snap is eyeing the throne. He even told me, that they are pinching Baru Bian, See Chee How and Nicholas Bawin to cross over. Such is the situation in Snap. They do not have viable candidates.

PKR have made a mark on native customary right land and Dayak issues. What have Snap leaders, whether before or after suspension, done? Nothing. In fact, none of the NCR cases in the High Court of Borneo have been filed by lawyers in Snap's camp.

AlexToo: PKR is so weak in grassroots support in Sarawak that it needs to contest as many seats as possible in order to cover its weakness. I can boldly predict that PKR will not win more than five seats in this state election, while DAP can probably get 10 or more. All in all, BN will still win and will still keep its two-thirds majority.

Pakatan's dream of forming the government is as good as gone if it still rely on PKR to lead them. It is time PAS and DAP take the lead in Pakatan, resolve the Islamic state issue, issue a common and workable policy and work on building the next generation of leaders.

If PKR want to join, fine, if not, it should not matter. Most of their candidates will jump back to Umno anyway.

Aku Melayu Islam: With greedy Snap, Sarawakians will continue to be boil and eventually burn when Abdul Taib Mahmud and BN maintain their power over Sarawak. This is Malaysian politics.

Bozo: PKR has to kill off Snap if they continue being so arrogant. Prepare for three-cornered fights against Snap candidates. No point wasting time talking to Snap if they are not prepared to negotiate. PKR should stand in all other constituencies other than DAP and PAS seats.

Congrats: PKR, being West Malaysian-based, as expected is ignorant. This is Sarawak. Snap is a local Dayak party. Does PKR know the mentality of the rural Dayaks more than the Snap candidates? Please PKR, do not be ignorant and arrogant because the objective will never be met if this continues.

Anonymous222: Initially, I seriously doubt the accuracy of report on Snap being a BN Trojan horse as reported in Sarawak Report. Looking at what Snap is doing and behaving, it could really be one.

It's in the opposition just to create trouble. I cannot imagine a dormant party like Snap, with doubtful and unknown candidates, should ask for so many states seats to compete in. Snap today is not like Snap of yesteryears.

Their candidates should first prove themselves worthy of fighting for the natives' cause, like Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian.
