Editors, journalists called up over sex video screening

At least three senior editors and several journalists has been called up for police to assist in their investigation over the screening of a sex video allegedly featuring Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Police visited the office of Malaysiakini yesterday morning searching for the journalist who was invited to view the lewd video clip.
Since the journalist was out on assignment, the investigating officer with the rank of assistant superintendent from the Dang Wangi district headquarters fixed an interview for today.
During the 30 minute interview this morning, the officer asked the journalist to recount what happened on Monday, where he and several senior journalists were shown the video.
In particular, the journalist was asked to describe what was in the video, who screened it, where it happened and who invited the journalist to the screening at the luxury hotel.
The journalists was also asked to identify a man shown on a grainy photograph by the police officer. The police officer did not explain who the person was.
Meanwhile, Bukit Aman police secretary Ghazali Md Amin said the police have classified the case under Section 292 of the Penal Code
pertaining to distribution of pornographic material.
"As of today, the police have recorded statements from certain witnesses," he said in a statement.
Bernama reported late in the evening yesterday that editors and senior journalists from The Malay Mail, New Straits Times and the Star had their statements recorded at a police station in Kuala Lumpur.
The call-up from the police came in the footsteps of Anwar's police report over the matter at the Dang Wangi police station on Tuesday.
On Monday, selected journalists and senior editors were invited to the luxury Carcosa Seri Negara hotel where they were shown a video recording of a couple having sex.
Various quarters have alleged the male depicted in the video to be Anwar.
PKR leaders and Anwar himself, however, have come out to vehemently deny the accusation.
Yesterdday, PKR parliamentarian Johari Abdul held a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya denouncing former Malacca chief minister Rahim Thamby Chik and businessman Shazryl Eskay Abdullah for being behind the sex video.
Hours later, Rahim admitted in a press conference that he is one of the 'Datuk Trio', or 'Datuk T' for short, behind the screening of the video.
He also confirmed that his partners were Shazryl Eskay and Perkasa treasurer-general Shuib Lazim.
