'ROS sitting on Pakatan application'

Paul Warren: You will have to excuse EC deputy chief Wan Ahmad Wan Omar. He does not know who is boss. And he does not know the difference between rule of law and Umno's law.

Or maybe he knows and so he uses the rule of law on the others whereas he submits to Umno's laws when it concerns Umno and their friends.

Brij Jayaram Kathiravelu: It's sad to read, coming from the most important people, the EC deputy chair, that he can be so ignorant of the single most important matter, i.e. legal status of a political coalition (Pakatan Rakyat) which represents one-third of the seats in our august House.

It is also the duty of the EC to encourage the Registrar of Societies (ROS) to expedite the formal registration of Pakatan as a political coalition to better conduct and regulate election process in our country.

By assisting Pakatan, EC would also appear to be an independent body interested in advancing democracy in our country instead of being accused of being just another body working under the 'instructions' of the federal government.

Pakman: Wan Ahmad is talking nonsense on the issue regarding party logos but he should be sensible on the more serious offence consistently being abused by Umno/BN such as corruption, abuse of power, suppression, money politics, phantom voters, postal votes and vote rigging.

How could he be so naive and irresponsible not to solve so many complaints which are consistently occurred in every general election and ‘buy-election'?

His actions do not reflect EC is an independent body but more as a tool to the current regime. With him as EC deputy chairperson, Malaysia can never hope to achieve 'free and fair elections' but 'free buy-elections'.

Don't Play God: It just goes to show Wan Ahmad is sleeping on the job, or he is not bothered to read his files and papers sent to him. Maybe he is waiting for Umno to give the instructions.

What other reasons can there be? When a party is opposed to Pakatan, that party's application is fast-tracked and is approved within days. If it is seen as not being BN-friendly like Pakatan or even PSM, the applications will take years, even more than 10 years. All said and done, ROS and EC are just tools of Umno.

Alan Goh: Director-general of Registrar of Society, apa tunggu lagi? Do you need PM Najib Abdul Razak or the ‘Malay-first' DPM Muhyiddin Yassin to nod their heads in order for you to approve?

This is why Malaysia under 53 years of corrupt rule, needs to be reformed. Yet the rural folks from Merlimau and Kerdau do not see it.


Merlimau: Pakatan's failed experiment in Malacca

Righteous: Merlimau was no failed experiment. The result was expected. How could anyone but BN win when the deck is stacked in their favour before the event even began. As long as BN keeps the rural folk dumbed down and misinformed, they will continue to garner their support.

Anyone armed with the proper information and the ability to form an educated opinion knows that it is not gratitude that they should be giving BN but contempt for them creating a system that short changes the rakyat whilst enriching the few elites at the cost of the whole country.

Eventually their system will fail, but it will be to the detriment of us all, and only then will these so-called BN supporters see the huge mistake that they have been repeating so many years.

Don't be so grateful to the government that it doesn't do what it is supposed to be doing. Expect more, instead!

Proarte: Pakatan should go back to the drawing board in a spirit of brutal honesty. There is no point treating the rakyat like imbeciles. We know how rotten BN is and the ruthless means it will use to hold on to power. The real problem is the ability of Pakatan to convince us that it will be a better alternative to BN.

Pakatan has lied to the rakyat and did not fulfil its promises for a new paradigm it made in 2008. They seem to have forgotten they made us believe in the notion of freedom, democracy and equality, the very basic unifying values which the Arabs are crying out for and which has been a mighty tsunami which has toppled long entrenched fascist regimes not unlike BN. It worked because it had unity of purpose and a moral force which cut across religious, racial and social divides.

Pakatan does not have that moral purpose driving it. It is a marriage of convenience brought together by a quest for power but without unifying philosophy. 'Ketuanan Islam and Melayu' must be ditched.

Ghkok: Don't read too much into these by-elections. The rural voters are not stupid. They are very practical. Why offend the gods who rule the country for 53 years? Why jeopardise your livelihood. In the rural areas, your livelihood is at the mercy of the powers-that-be. Why vote against them when it won't change anything?

In the meantime, read about the Middle East. It's more exciting. People actually stare the tyrants in the face, and the tyrants blink!

Quigonbond: In 1998, Malays swung to the opposition. Some said had the Chinese and Indians turned against Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the opposition would have won the general election.

In 2008, the Chinese and Indians have had enough of racial and religious extremism, and the embezzlement by BN government. They've swung to the opposition.

Unfortunately, many Malays have not done so. And now, it looks like some of them have returned to BN. I ask this one simple question: Have the injustices under the Dr M era gone away? They have not.

This raises the next question - are the voters short on memory and attention span? Our leaders are as good as and as intelligent as the voters. If BN leads after the next GE, it's the voters' folly.

Anti-Najib: My biggest concern is whether all the phone records been edited prior to submission. Anything can be edited in this age of IT. I am not surprised that they only submit now, so the report must sure be clean.

Artchan: In Malaysia, one can delete immigration records (remember Altantuya Shaariibuu) what made the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) think that the phone records presented now are intact and not compromised?

VP Biden: In the telecom world, there is a feature called Lawful Intercept System (LIS) that is only available to the law agencies, e.g. police force and army. Calls can be traced and played back later on. How many of you think that the police did not utilise this feature to "accommodate" the murderers?

If immigration records can be erased, this is chicken feed for our so called "protectors". This is a sham inquest. Nothing happened to the recommendations for the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) and the VK Lingam RCIs, and nothing is going to happen here.
