Ahmad Maslan: BTN not involved in BN campaign

The National Civics Bureau (Biro Tata Negara or BTN) is not officially involved in the campaign in Merlimau by-election.
Instead the ‘talks’ or video screenings throughout the constituency are organised by tenaga penggerak (machinery) who are made up of BTN “supporters and alumni”, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Ahmad Maslan said.

Instead the ‘talks’ or video screenings throughout the constituency are organised by tenaga penggerak (machinery) who are made up of BTN “supporters and alumni”, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Ahmad Maslan said.
“They are not government staff and they are privately funded,” he said when met on the campaign trail at Pengkalan Samak today.
Yesterday, Malaysiakini reported that BTN had joined the campaign trail by organising up to three talks a day for eight days between Feb 23 and March 4, mostly in private residences.
One ‘talk’ attended by this news portal at a local food stall turned out to be a video screening on how DAP is allegedly anti-Islam and anti-Malay.
It links DAP to Singapore’s People’s Action Party and slammed secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and several other leaders for trying to threaten the special position of Malays, the usage of Bahasa Malaysia and abolishment of the royal institution.
A listing of the ‘talks’ is posted on an operations room that is run by the Federal Territory BN.
“(The organisers) should fix that, maybe it should read talks by ‘BTN supporters’, instead,” Ahmad said at the BN operations room, which is incidentally located at the Malacca division of Malay rights NGO Perkasa’s headquarters.
Opposition leaders have repeatedly called for abolishing the civics course, which is compulsory for selected government scholars and civil servants, calling it an indoctrination programme.
