Video experts: Time stamp on CCTV not in sync

Fauziah had last Thurs
day testified she was asked by investigating officer DSP Jude Blacious Pereira to look for several individuals and cars on the day of the alleged incident on June 26, 2008.
Although the witness did not mention the identity of the individuals , it was apparent she was asked to look for Anwar and complainant Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan at the Desa Damansara condominium (which she referred to as Sri Damansara).
Fauziah also testified she was asked to make copies of the hard disc.

9.20am: Fauziah says the CCTV recordings had run for 24 hours on June 26, 2008. She denies the recording was for any ulterior motive (tujuan khas).
9.23am: The witness says Jude asked about the MG Rover WMK 6 and a Fiat Ulyse WPK 5925, seen between noon and late afternoon.
9.28am: Fauziah says Jude identified the individuals and the cars concerned.
A total of seven cars and seven individuals had gone to the Desa Damansara condominium on June 26, 2008.
Fauziah says she does not know who the individuals were as Jude did not mention them to her.
9.36am: Fauziah says she went to the condomonium only when the judge visited the scene.
According to her, it is not necessary a good practice to visit the condo before looking at the CCTV recording.

40am: Fauziah says the images are computer generated and cannot be altered digitally.
9.53am: Sankara asks about the discrepancy in the time of the CCTV at the entrance of the condo as well as the one to the lift.
For example, sodomy complainant Saiful Bukhari Azlan was recorded by the CCTV as being at the condo entrance at 2.47pm but at the lift, the CCTV showed the time was 2.42am.
The witness replies that all images are computer generated and the defence will have to question the operator of CCTV on the issue of calibration.
9.59am: Sankara ends cross-examination of Fauziah but informs the judge that the witness is subject to recall as there could be further questions on the CCTV recording.
During re-examination by DPP Mohd Hanafiah Zakaria, the witness says she viewed the footage from the clone recording, which she copied from the original.
The recording has not been tendered as evidence but the images have been tendered.
10.01am: The court stands down to prepare for the next witness.
10.08am: ACP Fadzil Ahmad, 43, the head of the police forensic lab's administration division, takes the stand.
He says Jude (right) approached him on June 30, 2008,to seek his assistance with the CCTV recording. He arrived at the condominium about 2pm that day.
"I was informed the case concerns Anwar Ibrahim."
10.22am: The witness says an access card is required to enter the building and to use the lift.
10.27am: Fadzil says that, as viewing the full recording takes a long time, the police seized the footage so that it could be cloned.
The officer sought help from three cyber security officials for the cloning.
10.31am: Fadzil says the cloning of footage from the guardhouse was completed at 9.04pm. Cloning of footage of the lift was completed at 10.32pm.
10.41am: He says there is no effect of the cloning.
Sankara cross-examines the witness.
10.47am: The 10th prosecution witness Mohd Zabri Abdul Talib (right) from the Cyber Security unit is called. He explains that his job is to help retrieve data related mainly to cyber security.
Mohd Zabri says the unit is under the the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry.
10.53am: He has previously testified at the Altantuya Shaariibuu murder trial and befoer the VK Lingam RCI.
10.56am: He was summoned by Fadzil to help clone bit to bit.
"We copy the active and inactive data. In cloning, 100 percent of data will be in the second hard disc."
11.09am: Mohd Zabri says there was a lag of 19 minutes on CCTV clock. He therefore based the exact time on the Sirim website which has an atomic watch, which is exact.
"So 19 minutes must be added to every mention of the time."
11.15am: DPP Mohd Hanafiah completes examination-in-chief.
Sankara asks about the discrepancy in the time and the witness says it is due to the CCTV computer setting.
11.20am: The witness says the timing was wrong on both clocks on the CCTV used by the condo management.
Following re-examination by Hanafiah, the court stands down.
12.06pm: Mohd Sharizuan Mohd Omar (left), a systems analyst from the Cyber Security unit, is sworn in as the 11th prosecution witness when the hearing resumes.
12.22pm: The CCTV at the guardhouse is late by 9 minutes and 15 seconds, he says.
(There are two hard discs - the camera at the guardhouse is off by 9 minutes, while the camera at the lifts is off by 19 minutes.)
12.33pm: Cross-examined by Sankara, he says he did not take a screenshot of the time discrepancy.
12.35pm: The court adjourns for lunch until 2.30pm.
2.52pm: The hearing resumes.Mohd Aris Ahmad, the resident manager of the Desa Damansara condominium, is testifying.
His job is to maintain the CCTV, residence and cleanliness of the condominium.
"We have a CCTV and security guard posted at the condo. To gain entry, the owner will inform us. If a guest comes, we will inform the owner and register the name of the person."
2.59pm: To gain entry to the car park and lifts, an access card is required.
3.03pm: The judge will decide later on an issue raised earlier by Sankara, who pointed out a discrepancy with the CCTV footage supplied to the defence team.
3.05pm: Mohd Aris says the CCTV is supplied by Golden Perfect Sdn Bhd and the company maintains the equipment.
3.15pm: He says the hard disc for the CCTV recording was removed in his presence and he also verified the search list compiled by the police.
3.20pm: Cross-examined by Sankara, Mohd Aris cannot verify whether the CCTV was working well on June 26, 2008.
On re-examination by DPP Hanafiah, he says there was no problem with the CCTV that day.
3.25pm: Tan Tong Yean of Golden Perfect Tower Sdn Bhd is sworn in.
"We supplied and installed the CCTV to the Desa Damansara condo. It was installed in August 2007 to the whole condominium. The equipment consists of cameras, a CPU and motherboard."
3.32pm: Tan admits that the time stamp on the CCTV recording was not synchronised.
3.38pm: Tan says he was called in to the Desa Damansara condominium on June 30, 2008 by Mohd Aris.
"Several police officers were there including investigating officer DSP Jude Blacious Pereira."
He identifies the hard disc retrieved by police.
3.42pm: Tan is being cross-examined by Sankara. Tan says the CCTV was in good working condition on June 26, 2008 but does not have any records to prove it.
3.47pm: The hearing is adjourned to tomorrow.
