MB ready for 'lewd' hand gesture onslaught

"There are only local issues like land, roads and water supply that will be resolved as soon as possible."
Adnan said BN would take the face-to-face approach and meet voters to identify and solve problems.
Kerdau state seat was known as Sanggang and placed under Mentakab parliamentary constituency.
After the delineation exercise in 2004, it was renamed Kerdau and placed under Kuala Krau parliamentary constituency.
Asked about his hand gesture considered lewd during the Sanggang by-election in 2000, Adnan cynically challenged PAS to use the old issue (right).
The menteri besar said in jest that he is willing to help PAS put up posters on the hand gesture atop trees.
BN has named Syed Ibrahim Syed Ahmad as its candidate for Kerdau polls on March 6.
Syed Ibrahim good choice
Syed Ibrahim,44, is Kuala Krau Umno division vice-chief and special religious officer to the menteri besar.
Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin described Syed Ibrahim as a winnable candidate and may be spared personal attacks by the opposition.
In a random survey by Bernama, several residents and voters said Syed Ibrahim's selection is good as he is not new to people in the area.
In fact, he is close to Felda settlers in three areas - Jengka 22, 23 and 24, that make almost half the voters in Kerdau.
Syed Ibrahim often hold religious talks at mosques in Kerdau and thus proving his quality as a grassroot leader.
Kerdau Umno branch deputy chief Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman said there are no major issues as BN had implemented various development programmes.
He said the kampungs and Felda schemes have paved roads, community halls, mosques and suraus.
An Orang Asli kampung has also been supplied with electricity and piped water around the clock.
PAS getting support
Meanwhile, Pahang PAS secretary Roslan Zainal said although Kerdau is a BN stronghold, PAS is confident of getting its fair share of support.
"PAS has lined-up seven names as candidate and most are graduates who are former lecturers and civil servants."
He said PAS may be lacking in local issues and would raise national issues to attract voters.
"Based on current political trends and addition of new voters, PAS is confident of getting support of voters. We will not make it easy for BN," he added.
Kerdau seat fell vacant following the death of Zaharuddin Abu Kassim, 63, of the BN on Feb 12.
In the 2008 general election, Zaharuddin beat Salim Hassanuddin of PAS with a majority of 1,615 votes.
Nomination for Kerdau by-election is on Saturday.
