Upko wants RCI on Sabah's immigration problems

He said this was necessary in the wake of reports that a Sabah businessman-cum-former Internal Security Act detainee had been installed ruler of the southern Philippine province of Sulu.
He noted that it had thus, put the Kota Kinabalu-based businessman Datu Mohd Akjan Datu Ali Muhammad's citizenship status under question.
"I am disgusted (upon knowing this). You cannot have people running around the country who are forming 'nations' of their own... it's absurd," he told reporters after the launch of a mobile clinic service in Penampang today.
Probe dual citizenship claim
Dompok, who is also plantation industries and commodities minister, was asked to comment on a recent announcement on the self-proclaimed interim government of the so-called Sulu Sultanate that Mohd Akjan was a direct descendent of the last reigning Sultan of Sulu, Paduka Mahasari Maulana Al-Marhum Sultan Shariful-Hashim.

ohd Akjan was said to have been installed as the 33rd reigning Sultan of Sulu at a private ceremony attended by a group of 60 people, including his followers from Sulu province, at his home in Kampung Likas on Feb 2.
Dompok said the issue of dual citizenship warranted a full-scale investigation and urged the Malaysian authorities to view the matter seriously.
Yesterday, BN Youth Wing, Sabah PKR and the Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) lodged separate police reports here, urging the police to initiate investigations into the installation.
