Embattled PAS Youth says statement misunderstood

Neither will the party be working with the religious authorities in these states on the matter, he told Harakahdaily today.
What he had actually said, Nasrudin added, was that PAS Youth was "ready to cooperate with anyone, particularly Pakatan Rakyat state governments, to help curb immoral acts on that night".
He explained: "It is a routine practice of PAS youths to spread the teachings of Islam and preach to the community about the religion, and to tell Muslims not to get into any immoral acts on New Year's Eve or on Valentine's Day.
"I am not ignorant when it comes to authorities and the jurisdiction of the state. I did not ‘order' state governments to follow the PAS Youth members. The reporter who phoned me misunderstood."
AFP's report yesterday with the heading 'Malaysian states plan Valentine's Day crackdown on immoral acts' caused a stir among politicians, including those from the Pakatan Rakyat, with many of them criticising Nasrudin for his reported statement.
Meanwhile, according to Bernama, Shah Alam MP and the city's PAS chief Abdul Khalid Samad said Selangor PAS rejected the 'immorality checks' proposal.
He said Nasrudin was not empowered to speak on behalf of the state governments.
"He (Nasrudin) does not represent the state governments, and the state religious departments always curb immoral activities whether it is Valentine's Day or not," he was quoted as saying in Shah Alam today.
