Attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail said he will be briefed over the case involving the seven alleged Somali pirates who had allegedly hijacked a Malaysian vessel tomorrow.

Abdul Gani said his officers will inform him on the outcome of the initial investigations.

“The chambers had received the initial investigation papers and I will be briefed. Following that, we will then decide on whether to continue to press the charge or charges,” he said.

Abdul Gani told this to reporters after attending the Karpal versus Chief Justice Zaki Azmi’s judicial review application at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

The seven Somali pirates arrived on Malaysian soil on Jan 31, after being detained by Malaysian commandos for allegedly hijacking the tanker MT Bunga Laurel along with its crew of 23.

Abdul Gani had earlier indicated that the Somali pirates will be subjected to extra-territorial law.

Malaysian naval commandos had rescued the 23 crew members and captured the pirates following a firefight to free the hijacked oil tanker in the Gulf of Aden, according to reports.
