Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim and new state secretary Mohamad Khusrin Munawi held their much anticipated first meeting today, but did not discuss the issue of the latter's oath of secrecy.

NONEIn a statement issued by the Menteri Besar's office, the pair met at Khalid's office at the state secretariat building at 5pm, to discuss issues related to the management of state assets and sand theft.

The media had been hounding Khalid and his aides for much of the day, to follow up on the meeting which was supposed to be scheduled for today.

No confirmation however was given, with his aides only saying that there were "no orders" given to inform the media of any such meeting.

The meeting was called after over a month of vigorous protest by Khalid's administration over Khusrin's appointment, which they claimed was a ploy by the BN-led federal government to undermine the Pakatan Rakyat state government.

NONEKhusrin was sworn in as the new state secretary during an investiture ceremony before the Selangor sultan on Jan 6, replacing Ramli Mahmud (right), whose tenure ended last Dec 31.

The controversy surrounding Khusrin's appointment culminated in a state assembly sitting held late last month, in the state government's failed bid to amend the constitution to return the power of appointment to the sultan.

The state government however has yet to allow the new state secretary to take the oath of secrecy - a prerequisite before he can start serving in his full capacity and sit in at state executive council meetings.

It is understood that the subject was not broached during today's early evening meeting, nor is there any indication of when the state government intends to allow Khusrin to take his oath.

‘Meeting to prioritise the rakyat'

The statement from the Menteri Besar's office said the meeting was held "to make sure the needs of the people of Selangor are given priority" and that the state administration continues to operate smoothly.

It was however stressed that the state government has not shifted from its position that the Khusrin's controversial appointment should lie with the Selangor sultan and the menteri besar, and not the federal government.

During the meeting, Khalid told Khusrin to strive to work closely with district officers and local authorities to maintain good management of state assets.

He also urged the state secretary to organise meetings or dialogues with squatters on government land in a bid to find the best solution to the issue, and to also make periodic reports to the state government on state assets, to identify the value of idle and problematic land in the state's portfolio.

Khusrin was also asked to continue with the state government's efforts to manage the state's long-standing sand theft problem.
