The controversy surrounding the allegedly seditious blog post against the Sultan of Selangor refuses to leave Seri Muda assemblyperson Shuhaimi Shafiei, with a sedition charge waiting for him at the Shah Alam courts on Monday.

NONEShuhaimi, who posted police bail this morning, said that he was told he will be charged in the Shah Alam Sessions court at 9am in relation to his blog posting late last December.

"I'm not exactly sure what the charge is, but I was told it was framed under section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act," he said when contacted by Malaysiakini today.

The section Shuhaimi referred to covers an offense by "any person who prints, publishes, sells, offers for sale, distributes or reproduces any seditious publication" and carries a penalty of a fine not exceeding RM5,000, or up to three years' jail for a first offender.

Shuhaimi, who had repeatedly denied he was referring to the sultan of Selangor in his blog post, noted that he was supposed to go to the Shah Alam police headquarters yesterday evening but asked that they postpone their meeting to this morning as he was tied up with a ceramah.

NONEHe said police had detained him briefly this morning, before posting bail under one surety.

Abdul Razak Ismail, the aide to Selangor executive councillor Dr Xavier Jayakumar, stood in as his guarantor.

At least 20 police reports were lodged against Shuhaimi in the aftermath of his blog post, with conservative Malay rights group Perkasa and anti-Pakatan Selangor government movement Gaps demanding that he be hanged for inciting "war on the Malay rulers".

Shuhaimi went under the radar for several weeks following the furore, before finally emerging on Jan 12 to give his statement to the police.

He also put it on record in the Selangor state assembly last week that he was not referring to the sultan of Selangor in his blog post - instead he was training his guns on Putrajaya's "lackeys", who he claimed were ever ready to please their political masters at the expense of the people and country.
