Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak wants the Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya folks to transform the federal territories to world-class cities, with a balanced quality of life and rich heritage.

He also hoped they would celebrate the Federal Territories Day as among the most liveable cities in the world in the near future.

"One day, I hope we celebrate our 47th FT Day as among the most liveable cities in the world, distinguished by modern amenities and cultured Malaysians," he said in his latest posting on his official Facebook page yesterday.

Today, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan will celebrate the 37th FT Day.

Meanwhile, chief secretary to the government Mohd Sidek Hassan today led the list of 256 people conferred with awards and medals, in conjunction with FT Day 2011.

He received the Seri Utama Mahkota Wilayah (SUMW) award, which carries the title 'Datuk Seri Utama'.

The investiture ceremony at Istana Melawati in Putrajaya was attended by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin.

Other recipients of the SUMW award are Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and Public Bank Berhad non-executive director Thong Yaw Hong.

Three people received the Seri Mahkota Wilayah (SMW) award, which carries the title 'Datuk Seri'.

They are Bukit Aman Special Branch director Akhil Bulat, PPP president M Kayveas and Malaysian Real Estate and Housing Developers' Association president Yam Kong Choy.
