PKR plays down Gobala's resignation

Describing Gobalakrishan as a non-performing member, Tian Chua, who is also the party's strategic director, said the decision showed that Gobalakrishnan was "blatantly trying to run away from being castigated due to the criticism he publicly thrown to the party's leadership."
"We were already planning to suspend him from the party. This kind of people is not a lost to the party.
"During the 2008 general election, people expected us to have better quality representatives... unfortunately, during the last election we were unable to do that, because we were in a rush, we got so many candidates that were not competent enough and Gobalakrishnan was one of them," he told Bernama today.
Earlier today, Gobalakrishnan announced his resignation from PKR with immediate effect, saying he was fed up with PKR advisor Anwar Ibrahim and deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali "who are in 100 percent control of PKR's adminstration."
Gobalakrishnan also said that he and several of his friends, among them lawyers, engineers and doctors would be forming a new non-governmental organisation to look after the interests of the people and voters of Padang Serai in Kedah.
Zulkifli: More to quit
Meanwhile, Kulim Bandar Baharu MP Zulkifli Noordin said several more PKR representatives and senior leaders would leave the party.
He said that he was right all along in his prediction that Gobalakrishnan would quit the party.
"I know of several more elected representatives, senior party leaders intending to take the same way out. They are only waiting for the right time," he said in his blog zul4kulim.blogspot.com.
The latest departure of a senior PKR leader signalled PKR's eventual demise, he said.
Wangsa Maju MP Wee Choo Keong said with the decision, Gobalakrishnan "need not have to stand together with people who pretend to fight for the Indians in public and behind the scene hurling derogatory words at him."
"I congratulate Gobalakrishnan for fighting against those who practice the politics of 'cakap tak serupa bikin' and 'politic of deceits' and racism.
"I know that he will not be the last to say 'no' to these. It is better late than never," he said in his blog weechookeong.wordpress.com.
Wee, who left PKR last year to become an Independent MP, said it was better "to be called a traitor by the Anwarinas" than to be called a coward.
