Hisham: Cops probing Anwar's 'terror links'

Ferdtan: How can a person, a minister at that, announced that the police are investigating an opposition leader, Anwar Ibrahim, linking him with terrorist groups without first reading the report by CNN which highlighted the story?

As CNN did not implicate Anwar with the terrorist groups, Hishammuddin Hussein should be ashamed of himself for jumping the gun and make a fool of himself in front of the whole nation.

With his power to order the detention of any person for two years under ISA upon recommendations from police, we wonder whether he reads the report before he puts his signature on it. We shudder to think if it is otherwise.

Docs: I'm sure PDRM (Royal Malaysian Police) will ensure that no hole is left unturned till they find a terror link to Anwar. If PDRM does not find any terror link then they can do what they do best, cook up a terror link. I think we can look forward to a Taliban fighter swearing on the Holy book that he had given money to Anwar.

Pemerhati: Yesterday the Selangor MB's politically secretary replied to Muhyiddin Yassin's statement asking the MB to step down by saying, "It was a statement not guided by fact or law, and shows shallow intellect. Too bad it was uttered by one who bears the title of deputy prime minister and senior federal minister."

But today Home Minister Hishammuddin outdid his boss and proved that his intellect was even shallower when he said that he had issued an order for the police to investigate PKR de facto leader Anwar's alleged links with international terrorists based on a CNN report which he had not read.

On reading the report one finds that the report had in fact cleared Anwar against a false allegation made against him by Najib and it did not say anything about Anwar being linked with any terrorist group. Since Mahathir Mohamad's time the very top Umno leaders have become pathological liars and will use any crooked method to discredit and eliminate the opposition.

Vijay47: I studied the CNN report and discovered a rather strange conclusion being drawn from a rather straightforward sequence of events. It all started when Najib complained that 'Saudi personalities' were 'funding Anwar'.

A probe was carried out and it found the allegations to be untrue - meaning that Anwar was not involved. The same probe however, ascertained that certain terrorist organisations were being backed by some Saudis. How on earth did our brilliant ‘I-have-not-read-the-report-yet' home minister then conclude that Anwar was involved in terrorist activities?

By the way, what is the problem even if Anwar were indeed financed by 'Saudi personalities'? Would that be a crime and automatically be evidence of linkages to terrorism? I wonder if Hishammuddin would jump with the same alacrity if Najib received funds from, say, Mongolian personalities.

AnakBangsaMalaysia: First they said Anwar was a 'sodomist'. Then he was a 'penderhaka' (traitor). Then he was an 'agent of the Zionists/US'. Then he was a 'sodomist' again. Now he is a 'terrorist'. What next?

Will the illustrious home minister next declare that Anwar is really an alien from Mars bent on invading Malaysia and eating our brains? The desperation and stupidity of Umno in its fear of the charismatic Anwar really knows no bounds.

Stories: What kind of security minister who never read the newspapers first or even verify the information with others? Oh, I forgot about that the previous one, Syed Hamid Albar.


Najib pressures Saudis to probe Anwar's funders

Bernard Phillips: The PM must explain why he found it necessary to request for the probe. Was Anwar involved in illegal activities in the country? If so, we the rakyat need to be informed. If not, then he should apologise for tainting the Anwar's reputation abroad.

As if the Umno/BN government had not done enough to do so. The PM must be so disappointed. He has done so much to destroy Anwar's reputation but still that man refuses to lie down and die quietly.

And he still lacks the courage to debate Anwar on his government's polices and finances. What a sad state of affairs when the leader of the government and an unelected PM at that, is afraid to meet the leader of the opposition for a public debate.

I suppose that it is fair to presume that he is just afraid to show the country just how incompetent and incapable he is.

Ahamzah: It's a Saudi's intelligence secret report, but CNN has a copy of it. This smells like Apco's work. The report doesn't say anything except mentioning Muslim Brotherhood, Anwar Ibrahim and Al-Qaeda in the same paragraph. Just like the way the American right-wing has Barack Obama, the socialists and Nazis in the same sentence.

Can we really expect the Saudi secret intelligence report to admit that Saudi princes funded the Malaysian opposition leader? Just like we can't expect the Malaysian secret intelligence to report that Malaysian government supported Muslim insurgencies in southern Thailand and the Philippines.

I don't know about Muslim Brotherhood, but Anwar's links to fellow brothers in the Muslim world is very strong. Remember that a Saudi government jet flew him to Munich for the spine surgery and then was offered to go to Saudi Arabia to recuperate. When Sodomy II started and he expected to be arrested, the Turkish Embassy provided him a safe haven. I wonder if our PM has that kind of links.

Misai Kuching: I do not think the Muslim Brotherhood is a terrorist group but a group who wants to see justice and the eradication of corruption, cronyism and nepotism, especially in the Middle East. I do not think it is fair to call them terrorists just because they are independent and not aligned to some Western countries.
Swipenter: Apart from probing overseas funding of Anwar there are many probes yet to be launched:

1) illicit capital outflow
2) custodial deaths
3) corruption involving politicians
4) abuse and misuse of power by government institutions, civil servants and politicians
5) extent of racism and religious extremism.

And the list goes on and on.

Anonymous_4135: So where again does it say that Anwar is funded by terrorists? Unless I'm reading a different paper from Najib, it says that, "There is no evidence any Saudi official ever supported Anwar Ibrahim" and "claims of support from the Saudi royals named in the initial report [names redacted] were found to be without basis," said CNN.

Then it also said, "It also found that al-Qaeda and the Taliban were still able to use Saudi Arabia for fund-raising". Where is the al-Qaeda and Anwar link? Putrajaya is working overtime and spinning more lies.
