Malay rights pressure group Perkasa has accused MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek of insulting Islam in his ceaseless tirade against Normala Sudirman, the PAS candidate in the Tenang by-election.

Perkasa Youth chief Arman Azha Abu Hanifah said Chua must apologise for attacking Normala’s refusal to shake hands with men.

NONE “Not only must he apologise, he must understand the actual context of Islam,” said Arman (right) when contacted.

He said that Perkasa concurs with Perak Mufti Harussani Zakaria that Chua had insulted Islam.

Asked if Perkasa plans to hold a demonstration - an act that has become synonymous with this movement - against Chua, Arman replied in the negative.

“We don't have to demonstrate (on every issue),” he said.

Even before the campaign officially started, Chua had been on the warpath against PAS, warning Chinese voters about the party’s Islamic state goals.

BN must ‘guide’ MCA

Citing an example of PAS’ ‘extremism’, Chua alleged that Normala would not visit non-Muslim places of worship and would not shake hands with men.

Although he was condemned by several Muslim groups, he remained undeterred.

However, a gag order was imposed today by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, in his capacity as BN by-elections director.

Arman said the onus is now on BN component parties to “educate” Chua about Islam.

“If we were to lash out at MCA, they will drift further away (and not learn about Islam). If something is wrong, the Prophet teaches us to advise (the wrongdoers) and guide them,” he added.
