Work on Klau dam to begin next month

Construction of the Klau dam, one of the components in the Pahang-Selangor Raw Water Transfer Project, is expected to begin next month, Pahang Menteri Besar Adnan Yaakob said today.

He said work on other components involved in the project, like tunnel, water intake point, Semantan pump station and dual water pipelines, which started in June 2009 was progressing ahead of schedule.
"The overall progress of the project is now 20 per cent, two per cent ahead of schedule," he told reporters after opening the Sungai Bilut Orang Asli settlement in Raub.
The inter-state water supply project, costing RM9 billion, was approved by the federal government to fulfil the needs of water supply in Selangor, and the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya until 2025.
The project, scheduled for completion in 2014, is mostly financed through a loan by the Japan International Co-operation Agency (Jica) and the remaining, from federal government grants.
Earlier, Adnan presented house keys to 110 Orang Asli families from Sungai Temir who were affected by the construction of the Klau dam and will be moved to a new settlement in Sungai Bilut.
Each family is given 0.101 hectare housing lot, 2.023 hectares of oil palm plantation which will be developed by the Pahang Agricultural Development Corporation (KKPP) and 0.4 hectare of orchard.
