Cops record Ku Li's statement

The police today recorded statements from Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah over his remarks on the ascension of Kelantan's Sultan Muhammad V.

Tengku Razaleigh (left) was quizzed at his residence in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon by Saiful Nizam Mislah, who is attached to the Kota Bharu district police headquarters, for about 90 minutes.

Also spotted at Tengku Razaleigh's residence were Pasir Mas MP Ibrahim Ali and Umno politician Tamrin Ghafar.

Tengku Razaleigh, who held a press conference after having his statement recorded, said he was misquoted in a Sin Chew report last September.

"What I said referred to when the seat had fallen vacant, before the amendment to the Rulers Council Enactment. I had no intention to question the new Sultan (whom he continuously referred to as Pemangku Raja.)

"He is my family too. He also visits me often. Why should I do this. If what is amended is legal and the Royal Council has made its decision to appoint him (Sultan Muhammad V), then it is all right," he said.

Tengku Razaleigh said he could not comment much over the matter as the case is still before the Federal Court.

No qualms with new ruler

The Gua Musang MP said he will not pursue taking legal action against Sin Chew.

"It was written in Mandarin and I cannot read it. I also do not know whether the translation is correct.

"Furthermore, I am told the reporter who wrote it had already left Sin Chew," he said.

Asked whether he has problems with Sultan Muhammad V (right), Tengku Razaleigh said: "He even came to my house in Kota Bharu for Hari Raya along with the new regent.

"So I have no problems. Even though he withdrew the honorific titles given to me, it is all right," he said, adding at that time he was busy with the Galas by-election.

Besides losing the titles, Ku Li's place as the deputy in the Ruler's council was also taken over.

"I had told Tuanku Ismail (the former sultan) that I wanted to relinquish my post as it was not proper for a politician like me to hold such a post. Subsequently I was replaced and that's all right," he said.

Asked if he knew who the complainant in the police report was, Tengku Razaleigh said he did, but would not like to divulge details.

Commenting on Tuanku Ismail's condition, Tengku Razaleigh said he is recuperating well, as he can talk, hear and see.

Tengku Razaleigh is the uncle to Sultan Muhammad V.
