Vote is confidential, says Koh

However, he said, he needed to find out the information on the proposal by the Election Commission (EC) on the proxy voting system before giving any comment on the issue.
"I haven't looked at their actual proposal. But how can you give a proxy to somebody to vote?
"How can you be sure that he or she votes the way that you want him to vote?" he told a news conference after delivering a New Year message to the National Unity and Integration Department in Putrajaya today.
He was commenting on the EC's proposal on proxy voting system which will allow those who are unable to be present on polling day to have their votes cast by approved proxies.
A news report today quoted EC chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof as saying that that EC would be studying the possibility of a proxy voting system.
Abdul Aziz said the proposal was among some 30 amendments to election laws in the country and part of the commission’s efforts to provide opportunities for voters to exercise their rights to vote.
However, Abdul Aziz declined to elaborate details of the proposed amendment because it was still in its preliminary stage.
