The police have completed their probe into reports against PKR’s Seri Muda assemblyperson Shuhaimi Shafiei, who is perceived to have undermined the authority of the Selangor sultan.

NONEHome Minister Hishammuddin Hussein (right) told a press conference today that the matter is in the hands of the Attorney-General’s (AG’s) Chambers.

"I told the police to run a speedy and thorough investigation on this issue.

"The investigation has been concluded (but it is up to the AG to take the matter to court if there is a viable case)," he said.    

Hishammuddin said he has been monitoring the matter on a daily basis because the reports were lodged by NGOs with strong sentiments about the institution of the royalty, but without links to political parties.

"But further action can only be determined by the Attorney-General’s Chambers," he said.

When asked whether he has met Shuhaimi, Hishammuddin said it was not necessary to do so.

Hishammuddin also said the draft guidelines for “online sedition” have been finalised and a meeting between him, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz and Information, Communications and Culture Minister Rais Yatim will be held soon.

“We will discuss the guidelines and will be keeping the public informed so that certain quarters cannot claim that they are not aware of the contents of the guidelines,” he said.

'No one is above the law'

NONEOn the case of M Krishnan, 37 - a wireman who was found dead in the lock-up at the Bukit Jalil police station while being held on suspicion of drug possession - Hishammuddin said any deaths that occur during the custody of the authorities are not taken lightly.

"All investigations are done transparently, following all the standard procedures and no one is above the law," he said, adding that those found to be responsible will pay the consequences.

On the azan issue, Hishammuddin stated that religion is a sensitive issue and it should never be politicised.

Touching on other matters, Hishammuddin admitted that there were factions when he first stepped in as the Terengganu Umno liaison committee chairman last year, which led to "small differences".

"However, these problems are being solved as as we realise that it should all be about the party and we should establish a strong foundation," he said.

Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Said, who was also present at the press conference, said he will be introducing the members of the new committee during its first meeting, which is expected to take place soon.
