The replies aimed at Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak managed to tickle his funny bone when the premier opened himself up for questions on microblogging website Twitter.

And as promised, he said that he has recorded a video reply to selected questions from the #tanyanajib session.

Najib had asked Twitterjaya - the moniker for the Malaysian community on Twitter - to pose questions to him on Tuesday, with hilarious results.

The session was initially to be held for only an hour but had to be extended by another 30 minutes due to the sheer volume of tweets that were coming in.

With an average of 40 tweets a second, the prime minister soon found himself inundated with questions - some serious, some downright ridiculous.

The high number of tweets put #tanyanajib on the world top 10 trending list for a short while, but the premier failed to outdo tweets on national football goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat, whose name remained on the trending list throughout the Suzuki Cup finals last month.

Even Twitter users from other countries had noticed the trending topic, with some asking if it was the name of a “hot chick”.

According to the Prime Minister's Office, Najib is due to answer selected questions, which were also posed on his social networking site Facebook, via a Youtube video soon.
