Najib Razak said he is generally satisfied with inputs from his meeting today with Barisan Nasional MPs, but believe they is room for them to improve their service to the people.

The prime minister and BN chairman said that some of the problems raised by the MPs were beyond their capacity to solve.

"This is the real purpose (of the meeting) based on our catch phrase that BN puts the people first," he said.

Najib said the MPs need the support of the federal and state governments and must be able to bring problems of the people to the top leadership for a solution.

This way the MPs will be more effective, he told reporters after the meeting at the Putra World Trade Centre.

105 of 112 invited MPs turned up

Najib said that 105 MPs, including deputy ministers, came for the meeting out of the 112 invited.

Those who did not attend had written to explain why they could not be present. Ministers were not included because they had other opportunities to meet Najib.

The meeting - which was a series of sessions with a group of MPs at a time -  started at 9.30am and ended at about 5.30pm.

Najib said the meeting was a good way for him and BN secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor to learn about problems in BN constituencies and consider how MPs could serve more effectively.
