New Straits Times and Star led with the order from the Selangor sultan to end the controversy surrounding the appointment of the Selangor state secretary Mohd Khusrin Munawi.

Malay newspapers

All major Malay newspapers highlighted the stance of Selangor Mentri Besar Khalid Ibrahim who said he will not allow Khusrin to take his oath of secrecy in order to be able to fully perform his duties.

Utusan Malaysia in its headline described Khalid as keras kepala (hardheaded). Both Berita Harian and Sinar Harian led with headers saying the debacle has not ended, even though Khusrin had been sworn-in.

Chinese newspapers

Sin Chew Daily front-paged the statement by the Selangor sultan ordering all state officers to give their full cooperation to Khusrin, while Oriental Daily News led with the swearing-in of the state secretary.

China Press highlighted an accident in Triang where a car carrying a couple went out of crontrol and landed on the railway tracks. The couple was thrown out of the car before the vehicle was hit by a train. The man was killed while the woman suffered severe injuries.

Nanyang Siang Pau reported the warning by the United Nations that last month's food prices worldwide hit its highest level in history. This could lead to social unrest in certain countries.

Editorial

New Straits Times commented that the proposed Malaysian Halal Institute Analysis Laboratory, the first government halal laboratory in the world, which marks a significant step towards setting a global halal standard acceptable to Muslim communities all over the world.

Berita Harian called for deviant religions and religious militants to be eradicated to prevent Malaysia from being labelled a nation with militant movements.

Nanyang Siang Pau welcomed the proposal of a high-speed railway connecting China with Laos, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. This could further facilitate trade and cooperation between the Asean countries and China.

China Press hoped that operations carried out by the road safety department during Chinese New Year would decrease the road accident rate.

Sin Chew Daily urged the government to view seriously the drastic increase in property prices and to watch out for a possible bubble burst in the industry.
